Patient concerns
Identify the cause of hair loss before comparing regenerative procedures.
Scalp cell procedures may be offered alongside medication, hair transplantation or other approaches. Results and supporting evidence vary by treatment and type of hair loss. Ask for a diagnosis and whether any associated scalp disorder needs treatment.
A 2024 systematic review of randomized trials considered varied cell and cell-free approaches for androgenetic alopecia. Its findings cannot validate every marketed product or other causes of hair loss. Ask whether the proposed preparation and schedule match a published study.
The American Academy of Dermatology explains that treatment depends on the cause of hair loss. Options can include minoxidil, prescription medicines and hair transplantation in suitable cases. Examination and sometimes testing help establish the cause. A scalp injection should not substitute for that assessment. Read the AAD diagnosis and treatment guide.
Agree on a baseline before starting: the area being assessed, the method of counting or photographing hair, concurrent medicines and the planned follow-up dates. Use consistent lighting, positioning and hair length where possible. Ask whether the result is a change from baseline or a difference compared with a control group.
If several procedures are performed together, improvement cannot automatically be attributed to the cell component. Ask what evidence supports that added step, how long any reported effect lasted and whether repeat treatment is expected.
Ask how hair density and change will be measured, what concurrent treatments are planned, how long follow-up lasts and what happens if there is no improvement.
Ask for the exact product, processing method, route and approval status in writing. The same diagnosis can be approached with very different products; a shared treatment name does not make their evidence interchangeable.
